Funeral traditions & ceremony types

Our recommendation is to use the Traditional Funeral as listed below. We also list a few other methods people have chosen to use.

Green and Woodland Funerals: Funerals that prioritize environmental sustainability, such as using biodegradable caskets and natural burial sites.

Traditional Funeral: A structured plan that often includes a viewing or visitation, followed soon afterwards by a burial or cremation service and then attend a service at a funeral home or place of worship.

Graveside Service (or Committal Service): An outdoor service held at the burial site, often following a traditional funeral service or as the sole ceremony.

Direct Burial: The body is buried without a formal funeral service.

Direct Cremation: The body is cremated without a formal service beforehand.

Memorial Service: A ceremony held to honor the deceased, but without the body or cremated remains being present.

Celebration of Life: A less formal gathering that focuses on the positive aspects of the deceased’s life, often happening after the remains have been handled.

Non-Religious Funeral: A secular service that does not include religious rites, focusing instead on personal readings and eulogies.
